BAHRAM RUSTAM BAY MIRZAYEV
(1891-1974)
Physicist
Bahram Mirzayev was born on 16 April 1891. In 1909, he graduated from Baku Vocational School, entering Petersburg University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. After completing his higher education in 1916 he carried out research and teaching activity in Petersburg and Donetsk regions. He then returned to Azerbaijan, embarking on a teaching and research activity at Azerbaijan State University. In 1941, he was promoted to chair of the Department of Practical Physics. Under his supervision, several members of the department defended PhD theses. From 1960 to 1970, he chaired the Department of Physics of Semiconductors. In 1969, Bahram Mirzayev became a professor. He published 50 papers, and was the author of two innovations. In 1954, he received “Lenin” Order, and in 1969 was awarded the title “Merited Scientist”. He was the recipient of several medals and a certificate of recognition of the USSR Supreme Soviet.
HASAN MAMMADBAGHIR ABDULLAYEV
(1918-1993)

Hasan Abdullayev was born on 20 August 1918. In 1941, he graduated from Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, and in 1948 completed his postgraduate studies at ANAS Institute of Physics and Mathematics. In 1955, he became a corresponding and in 1967 a full member of ANAS. In 1970, he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He initiated researches into selenium and selenium compounds in Azerbaijan in the 1950s, paving the way for the establishment of a relevant scientific school in the USSR. In 1958, he founded the Department of Physics of Semiconductors at Baku State University, contributing to the creation of the scientific school in the field of the physics of semiconductors and semiconductor devices. Academician Hasan Abdullayev served as academic secretary of ANAS Section on Physics, Mathematics and Technical Sciences, director of the Institute of Physics and President of ANAS. He was the recipient of “Azerbaijan State Award”, “Merited scientist” title, “Red Labor Flag” order, “Lenin” order, S.I. Vavilov medal, Gold medal of the International Leipzig Book Fair (ADR). His research interests laid in the physics of selenium, tellurium, their solid compounds and semiconductor devices, and the role of selenium in biological processes. He supervised the invention of a number of new devices on the basis of complex semiconductors. Academician Hasan Abdullayev addressed international conferences and symposia in the USA, France, Bulgaria, Romania, UK, Poland, Japan, Switzerland, Iran and other countries. He supervised nearly 100 PhD and 60 ScD students to completion. He published 17 monographs and more than 600 papers. He was the author of 240 innovations.
LATIF MUKHTAR IMANOV
(1922-1980)

Latif Imanov was born in 1922. In 1944, he graduated from Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, and was made a junior research fellow at ANAS Institute of Physics. In 1945, he started his postgraduate studies. He did his thesis research under the supervision of professor V.V. Migulin at the Department of Oscillations, Moscow State University. In 1950, he defended a PhD thesis. He then returned to Baku, joining ANAS Institute of Physics and Mathematics as a senior research fellow at the radio physical laboratory. In 1951, Latif Imanov became head of the laboratory. In 1952, he embarked on researching into dialectical relaxation in liquids and solids through radio spectroscopy. In 1976, he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS. In 1979, he received the title “Merited Scientist”. He lectured on radio physics and physical electronics at BSU. For many years he researched into dialectical relaxation in various nonpolar solutions of spirits, halogen benzene through radio spectroscopy. His researches allowed to set dependences reflecting the absorption of electromagnetic waves, and define dielectric proportion, critical wave length, height of the potential energy wall preventing the rotation of the molecule, activation energy, etc. Latif Imanov studied microwave spectrum of nearly 15 molecules. In the 1970s, he embarked on researching into two and three component semiconductor glasses with vanadium, tellurium and alkali metal oxides.
NARIMAN AGHAQULU QULIYEV
(1926-2014)

Nariman Quliyev was born on 28 December 1926. In 1943, he entered Azerbaijan State Institute of Physical Culture, but he did not complete his education there because of his overwhelming interest in physics. In 1947-1952, he studied at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Baku State University. In 1952, he started his postgraduate studies at BSU. A year later, in 1953, Nariman Quliyev was transferred to Lomonosov Moscow State University to continue his postgraduate studies in physics, which he completed in 1955. He started his career in 1956, when he became a teaching assistant at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU. He was later promoted to a senior teacher. In 1959, he joined Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, where he worked until his death. From 1959 to 1981, he served as deputy director for research at the Institute of Physics.
From 1981 to 2001, he worked as vice president and from 2001 to 2007 as first vice president of ANAS. In 2007, he became Adviser to the President of ANAS. In 1957, he defended a PhD thesis and in 1975 earned a ScD degree in Moscow. In 1976, he was elected a corresponding and in 1983 a full member of ANAS.
Nariman Quliyev spent nearly 60 years contributing to the development of physics in Azerbaijan. His extensive researches into topical problems of theoretical physics laid a solid framework for further researches in this area. He made an outstanding contribution to the development of nuclear physics in Azerbaijan. From 1992 to 2003, he was the Azerbaijani government`s special envoy to the United Nuclear Research Institute.
He educated highly-qualified specialists, sparing no efforts to raise a generation of young physicists. The results of his researches were reflected in more than 100 papers published in local and foreign periodicals. He participated in numerous high-profile international events.
Academician Nariman Quliyev was the recipient of several awards, including “Shohrat” and “Istiqlal” (Order of Independence) orders.
MAQSUD ISFANDIYAR ALIYEV

Maqsud Aliyev was born on 27 August 1924. In 1941-1943, he studied at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Tbilisi State University. From 1943 to 1945, he did his military service in the Soviet army. In 1950, he graduated from Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. Together with academician H.B. Abdullayev he created the Department of Physics of Semiconductors at BSU, where he taught for many years. His research interests lie in physical qualities of selenium semiconductors, and thermal conductivity of semiconductors. He defended a PhD thesis in 1957. In 1961, he joined ANAS Institute of Physics as a senior research fellow, and later became head of the laboratory of semiconductors. In 1966, he achieved a ScD in physical and mathematical sciences. In 1967, he was made a professor, and received several orders, medals and diplomas. In 1969, he was elected a corresponding and in 1980 a full member of ANAS.
He has published more than 300 papers in local and foreign journals, and is the author of 20 innovations. His “Thermal conductivity of semiconductors” book enjoys wide popularity. He has supervised more than 40 PhD and ScD students to completion.
Academician Maqsud Aliyev has for many years served as an assistant academic secretary at the unit of physics and mathematics and technical sciences at ANAS. He is deputy chair of “Problems of Physics” Research Council, ANAS, and a member of the councils on complex problem of physics and chemistry of semiconductors, and fundamentals of physical chemistry of semiconductors material studies, Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He is the recipient of a certificate of recognition of former All-Union “Knowledge” Society.
Academician Maqsud Aliyev was included in the “Republican Labor Glory” book.
ABDULLA IBRAHIM MUKHTAROV
(1918-2013)

Abdulla Mukhtarov was born on 24 December 1918. In 1939, he was admitted to Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. In 1945, he graduated from the university to start his career at the Institute of Physics and Mathematics, BSU, as a junior research fellow.
In 1947, he embarked on postgraduate studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Abdulla Mukhtarov played a profound role in developing theoretical physics in Azerbaijan. His researches produced a series of important scientific results. In 1950, he defended his PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1964. In 1972, he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS.
In 1950, he continued his activity at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU. From 1950 to 1967, he worked as a senior teacher and associate professor at the department, where he was made a professor in 1967 and then continued as a consulting professor. From 1967 to 1988, he chaired the department. He served as dean of the Faculty of Physics from 1965 to 1967.
His research interests laid in quantum theory, elementary particles and nuclear physics, high energy physics, etc.
He published more than 150 papers in leading periodicals. He supervised 20 PhD and five ScD students in physics and mathematics to completion.
Abdulla Mukhtarov chaired Specialized Scientific Doctoral Thesis Council and Expert Council on Physics at the Higher Attestation Commission.
For more than 20 years he headed Research and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Education, Section of Physics at Republican “Knowledge” Society, and republican school Olympiad in physics. He was a member of the Scientific Editorial Council of Azerbaijan Encyclopedia.
He is the author of “Statistical physics” and “Quantum Mechanics” textbooks. For his contribution to the development of physics and preparation of highly-qualified specialists Abdulla Mukhtarov received the title “Merited Scientist”, “Shohrat” Order and an individual pension of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
QAFAR IBRAHIM AFANDIYEV
(1924-1997)

Qafar Afandiyev was born in 1924. In 1941 he finished his secondary education, and in 1951 graduated from Baku State University with honors. From 1951 to 1954, he was a postgraduate student at Moscow State University. In 1955, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD in 1975. He started his career at Baku State University, where he served as a teaching assistant, associate professor, professor and department head. From 1966 to 1971, he headed the Department of Experimental Physics, and served as head of the Department of Physical Electronics from 1971 to 1992. Qafar Afandiyev published 156 papers in local and foreign periodicals. He addressed 22 research conferences and symposia. He supervised 15 PhD and one ScD student to completion. He authored one book, and translated several textbooks for secondary and higher schools from Russian into Azerbaijani. Qafar Afandiyev was a member of Plasma Physics Research Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences, research councils of Baku State University and its Faculty of Physics, and thesis councils under BSU and Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. He received “Medal for Labor Valor” (1970), “Medal for Distinction in Work at Higher Educational Institution”, “Medal of Labor Veteran of the USSR Supreme Soviet” (1985), and several certificates of recognition.
SABIR ABDULMANAF HAJIYEV

Sabir Hajiyev was born on 23 September 1928. In 1947-1949, he studied at Nakhchivan Institute of Teachers, Faculty of Physics. He continued his education at Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics from 1951-1956. From 1956 to 1968, he served as a teacher and associate professor. In 1968, he was an associate professor and professor at the Department of Structure of Substance. From 1972 to 1978, he worked as chairman of Free Trade Unions Association, chaired the Faculty of Physics from 1979 to 1988, and chaired the Department of Structure of Substance in 1972-1992. From 2005 to 2013, he served as director of the Institute of Problems of Physics. In 1974, he obtained a ScD degree. In 1983, Sabir Hajiyev was elected a corresponding member of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. His research interests laid in non-perturbation methods of quantum field theory, theoretical physics problems, and physics of elementary particles. He published 140 papers and authored three education handbooks. He supervised 22 PhD and two ScD students to completion. Sabir Hajiyev received “Shohrat” Order in 2000, and “Medal of Honor” by the American Bibliographical Institute in 2001.
BAHRAM MEHRALI ASGAROV

Bahram Asgarov was born on 5 October 1933. In 1952, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, graduating in 1957. The same year he began his postgraduate studies at ANAS Institute of Physics. In 1962, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD in 1971. In 1972, Bahram Asgarov became a professor. In 2001, he was elected a corresponding member and in 2007 a full member (physics) of ANAS.
He spent from 1962 to 1966 at ANAS Institute of Physics. In 1966, he began his teaching and research career at the Department of Molecular Physics, Faculty of Physics, BSU. In 1971, he became the first chair of the newly-established Department of Solids at the Faculty of Physics, a post he held until 2014. From 1994 to 2004, he served as BSU vice-rector for research, and was rector of the university in 1998-1999.
In 1974, he received Azerbaijan State Award in the field of science and technology. In 2000, he received the title “Merited Scientist”, and was awarded “Shohrat” Order in 2004. He was a member of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and chaired the Doctorate Thesis Council. Bahram Asgarov also was a member of BSU Senior Research Council and Research Council at the Faculty of Physics. He was editor of mathematical sciences series, “Baku University News” journal, and a member of the editorial staff of “News”, “Physics” and “Qafqaz University” journals of ANAS. Academician Asgarov elaborated the Quantum Theory of Thermomagnetic Phenomena in Solids. He published more than 170 papers in local and foreign periodicals, with 60 of them published in journals indexed by Thomson Reuters. He authored five monographs and three textbooks. His “Electron Transport Phenomena in Semiconductors” and “Thermodynamics, Gibbs Method and Statistical Physics of Electron Gases” (co-authored with professor S.R. Figarov) monographs were published in world-renowned periodicals in English. He supervised more than 30 master, five ScD and 12 PhD students to completion.
RAHIM AYYUB HUSEYNOV

Rahim Huseynov was born on 9 September 1924. In 1940, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, graduating with honors in 1946. In 1953, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1971. In 1976, he became a professor. In 2003, he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS. In 1958-1975, he served as deputy director for research at ANAS Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory. From 1975 to 1992, he chaired the Department of Astrophysics, BSU, where he also was a professor from 1992 to 2009. His research interests laid in solar physics and the physics of planetary nebula. He authored nearly 80 papers in local and foreign periodicals. He supervised 12 master and one PhD student to completion. He authored two textbooks and one monograph. He was the recipient of “Merited Teacher” title. Rahim Huseynov was a member of the editorial staff of “Azerbaijan astronomy” journal.
VLADIMIR ISMAYIL TAHIROV
(1932-2014)

Vladimir Tahirov was born on 5 April 1932. In 1951, he graduated from Aghdam Teachers Institute and in 1956 from Baku State University (in physics). In 1962, he defended his PhD thesis and achieved a ScD in physics and mathematics in 1972. In 1973, he became a professor. Vladimir Tahirov was elected a corresponding member of ANAS in 2001. He spent from 1971 to 1974 at ANAS Institute of Physics, where he served as laboratory head. From 1974 to 1991, he chaired the Department of Semiconductors, BSU. From 1991 to 2014, he served as a professor at the department.
His research interests laid in classical semiconductors including Ge, Si, Ge – Si, AIII BV, AII BVI. He also searched for new semiconductor substances with unusual physical qualities. He held more than 30 authorship certificates, and authored over 400 papers, six monographs and nine education handbooks. He supervised seven ScD and 36 PhD students to completion.
ALIJAVAD VAHAB JAVADOV

Alijavad Javadov was born in 1928. In 1946, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. He graduated in 1951, embarking on postgraduate studies in theoretical physics. He later was transferred to Moscow State University. In 1955, he defended a PhD thesis, and was made a professor in 1979. In 1955, he started his research and teaching activity at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU, where he served as a senior laboratory assistant, senior teacher, and an associate professor. From 1967 to 1970, he was dean of the Faculty of Physics. His research interests laid in elastic and inelastic scattering of particles. He published more than 100 papers in local and foreign journals, and authored “Quantum mechanics” textbook (1975). He supervised three PhD students to completion.
MEHDI SADIQ ALIYEV

Mehdi Aliyev was born in 1907. In 1924, he graduated from Ganja Gymnasium, where he started his teaching activity. In 1925, he was admitted to Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, graduating in 1930. From 1931 to 1935, he served as dean at BSU, and then continued his research and teaching activity at the university. In 1952, he was appointed vice-rector of BSU. Mehdi Aliyev was appointed rector of Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute in 1962. He held this post for three years, and his tenure marked a turning point in the university`s human resources policy, research activities, and also saw the establishment of a sound and friendly atmosphere among staff. In 1933, he became an associate professor.
He conducted important researches into physical properties of some soil elements.
In 1949, he defended a PhD thesis. He published numerous papers in local and foreign periodicals, and addressed international conferences.
One of the key priorities in his activity was the publication of textbooks, education handbooks and a vocabulary of physical terminology in Azerbaijani language.
Mehdi Aliyev translated many important textbooks for higher schools (A.F. Ioffe Course of molecular physics) from Russian into Azerbaijani, and co-authored the first Azerbaijani-language textbook on Course of Optics.
QUDRAT ALI AKHUNDOV
(1932-1973)

Qudrat Akhundov was born in 1932. In 1950, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. Upon his graduation he served as a laboratory assistant, junior research fellow, senior research fellow and head of “Physics of thin films” laboratory.
In 1958, he defended a PhD thesis. In 1970, he was elected chair of the Department of Physics of Semiconductors, BSU, a post he held until his death.
His research interests laid in the production of monocrystals of A3B6 type semiconductor compounds.
He was the first Azerbaijani scientist to research into diffusion processes in semiconductors through the method of radioactive isotopes. Together with Nobel Prize laureate, academician N.Q. Basov he for the first time observed laser radiation in gallium selenide crystals.
He supervised more than 10 PhD students to completion. He was the recipient of a jubilee “Medal for Distinction in Labor”. He published more than 100 papers in local and foreign periodicals, and addressed numerous international research conferences.
ISMAT MAHAMMAD NAJAFOV
(1933-2015)

Ismat Najafov was born on 21 January 1933. In 1950, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mechanics. He was the recipient of “Stalin” stipend. In 1955, he graduated from the university with honors, and started his career at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics as a senior laboratory assistant.
In 1956, he embarked on postgraduate studies in the theory of physics at Moscow State University, completing it in 1959. He then defended his PhD thesis and returned to Azerbaijan to continue his research and teaching activity at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU.
In 1975, he obtained a ScD degree.
From 1959 to 1963, he served as a senior teacher at BSU. He was a professor at the department from 1963 until his death.
From 1988 to 2004, he chaired the Department of Theoretical Physics. Ismat Najafov was elected a corresponding member of ANAS in 2014.
His research interests laid in quantum field theory, elementary particles and nuclear physics, and high energy physics.
He published more than 170 papers in local and foreign journalists. Ismat Najafov supervised two ScD and eight PhD students to completion. For many years he chaired D/N 054.03.07 Specialized Defence Council, Higher Attestation Commission under the President of Azerbaijan.
From 1994 to 1997, he was chair of Research and Methodological Council on Physics, Ministry of Education.
He translated the first volume of “Course of Theoretical Physics”, “Electric field” and “Physics for 9th-11th grades” textbooks into Azerbaijani.
His “Modern classical electrodynamics” textbook gained particular popularity among physicists. Ismat Najafov was the recipient of “Shohrat” Order, “Merited Teacher” title and certificates of recognition of the Ministry of Education and BSU.
ARIF AYYUB BAKHISHOV

Arif Bakhishov was born on 22 June 1932. In 1950, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. After graduating in 1955, he was dispatched to Ganja Pedagogical Institute, where he served as a teaching assistant and senior teacher for two years. In 1957, he began postgraduate studies at the Institute of Physics, ANAS. In 1962, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1985. From 1962 to 1965, he worked as a senior teacher and associate professor at the Department of Practical Physics, BSU. In 1965, he was transferred to the department of Physics of Semiconductors, where he served as an associate professor and professor until his death. In 1986, he became a professor. He authored more than 100 papers, and addressed numerous international research conferences. He supervised 10 PhD students to completion.
FAIK SULTANMURAD SADIKHOV
(1935- 2009)

Faik Sadikhov was born on 23 May 1935. In 1952, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. He graduated with honors in 1957, and started his postgraduate studies at Moscow State University in 1958. In 1963, he defended a PhD thesis, obtaining a ScD degree in 1973. In 1974, he was made a professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics. In 1968, he became a senior research fellow at the Institute of Physics, ANAS, and also started his research and teaching activity at BSU Department of Theoretical Physics. He was later promoted to an associate professor and in 1974 was made a professor at the department. From 1973 to 1980, he chaired BSU Doctorate Council on Physics, USSR Higher Attestation Commission. His research interests laid in spin properties of leptons and hadrons in weak, electromagnetic and strong interaction. He authored more than 140 papers. He supervised six PhD students to completion. Faik Sadikhov authored four textbooks. From 1992 to 1998, he addressed numerous conferences on high energy physics at Ankara, Trabzon and Kayseri universities, Turkey.
ISRAFIL ISA HUSEYNOV

Israfil Huseynov was born on 15 May 1934. In 1950, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, graduating with honors in 1955. The same year he started his postgraduate studies at Moscow State University. In 1959, he defended a PhD thesis in nuclear physics. In 1981, he achieved a ScD degree at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. He was made a professor in 1982. From 1960 to 1993 he spent at the Faculty of Physics, BSU. From 1972 to 1993, he chaired the Faculty of Chemical Physics. In 1969, he worked at Cambridge, in 1970 at Oxford, in 1985-1986 at John Hopkins and in 1986-1987 at Jilin universities. He has worked in Turkey since 1993.
He supervised 12 PhD and one ScD students to completion at BSU, and nine PhD students in Turkey. He has authored more than 310 papers, including 223 in indexed periodicals. In his researches, open shell atom-molecules and nuclear systems are dealt with Hartree–Fock method. He also found orthonormal function systems in Descartes-momentum and quadratic systems for particles with various spins.
RASUL KHANALI MURADOV

Rasul Muradov was born in 1942. In 1959, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating in 1964. The same year he began his postgraduate studies at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU. In 1968, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD in 1992. The same year he was made a professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics. In 1967, he took a teaching job at the department, where he was promoted to an associate professor and professor. He published more than 60 papers. Rasul Muradov addressed numerous international research conferences on theoretical physics in Russia, the United Kingdom and Iran. From 1989 to 1994, he served as deputy dean and from 1994 to 2004 as dean of the Faculty of Physics, BSU. In 2004, he was elected chair of the Department of Theoretical Physics. From 2004 to 2006, Rasul Muradov served as BSU vice-rector for international relations. He worked as the university`s vice-rector for evening and additional education from 2006 until his death. He chaired the Research and Methodological Council on Physics and Specialized Thesis Council on Physics, the Ministry of Education. He spent from 1972 to 1976 working in Algeria. He supervised one PhD student to completion. Rasul Muradov was the recipient of “Taraqqi” Medal.
AZER HANAFI ZEYNALLI
(1930-2010)

Azer Zeynalli was born in 1930. From 1949 to 1954, he studied at Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of Physics. In 1954, he started his postgraduate studies at Leningrad Institute of Physics and Technology named after Ioffe. In 1960, he defended a PhD thesis, obtaining a ScD degree in 1973. In 1964, he became an associate professor at the Department of Experimental Physics. From 1975 to 1991, he chaired the Department of General Physics. In 1967, Azer Zeynalli founded a research laboratory on physics of semiconductors under the Department of General Physics, heading it until 1991. He received more than 10 authorship certificates, supervised over 25 PhD students to completion and published more than 200 papers. In 1982, he received Azerbaijan State Award.
MAMMAD SHIKHALI MAMMADOV

Mammad Mammadov was born on 21 March 1934. In 1954, he was admitted to Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. Upon graduation in 1959, he embarked on a working career at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences. In 1960, he began his postgraduate studies, and was then dispatched to Moscow and Kharkiv. In 1966, he defended a PhD thesis in physics and mathematics. In 1971, he was made an associate professor, and obtained professorship in 1991. From 1982 to 1984, Mammad Mammadov served as BSU vice-rector for foreign relations, and from 1984 to 1989 vice-rector for evening and correspondence education. He is currently a professor at the Department of Structure of Substance, and chairs Educational and Methodological Council at the Faculty of Physics.
His research interests lie in the physics of biological systems, physics of polymers, phase transitions in polymer-polymer-aqueous polymer-inorganic electrolyte dual-phase systems and molecular aspects of phase variation. He also searched for new aqueous two-phase systems, and studied their physical and chemical properties. He has published 150 papers in local and foreign journals, and authored seven books and four methodological handbooks. He is the author of one patent. NIFTALI MEHRALI QOJAYEV

Niftali Qojayev was born on 18 October 1936. In 1953, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. He graduated with honors in 1958, beginning his career at the Department of Molecular Physics. In 1959, he embarked on postgraduate studies at the Institute of High Molecular Compounds, USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1962, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree in 2004. Starting from 1962, he served as a teacher, senior teacher and associate professor at the Department of Molecular Physics. In 1979, he became a professor. From 1965 to 1968, he served as dean of the USSR Higher Teachers Training School, and from 1968 to 1984, chaired the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics. In 1980, he was head of Molecular Biophysics Research Laboratory, BSU. In 2006, he was made chair of the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Institute of Problems of Physics under BSU, and then served as a professor at the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics.
He has supervised 16 PhD students to completion. He has authored over 400 papers and published 16 monographs, textbooks and education handbooks in Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkey. For many years he was a member of BSU Research Council and deputy chairman of the Thesis Council. Niftali Qojayev is now a member of a faculty research Council and Thesis Council. He has served as editor-in-chief of “Journal of Qafqaz University” international periodical.
BAKHSHALI IMAMQULU QULIYEV

Bakhshali Quliyev was born on 30 June 1936. From 1959 to 1964, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. In 1964, he began his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Physics. He continued his postgraduate study at A.F. Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology, USSR Academy of Sciences, where he defended a PhD thesis in 1969. He obtained a ScD in 1985, and became a professor in 1986. In 1969, he embarked on a research and teaching career at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU. In 1971, he was transferred to the Department of Physics of Solids, where his appointments included a teacher, senior teacher, assitant professor and professor. He has worked at Yuzuncu Yıl University in the city of Van, Turkey, since 1996.
His research interests lie in transition in thin films. From 1971-1996, he published over 70 papers in local and foreign periodicals, and also supervised five PhD students to completion. Bakhshali Quliyev worked as scientific secretary at the Faculty of Physics, and was a member of the Thesis Council under BSU.
MAMMAD NOVRUZ ALIYEV

Mammad Aliyev was born on 18 September 1942. From 1959 to 1964, he studied at BSU Faculty of Physics. He did postgraduate studies at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences. He later was transferred to Kazan University, where he defended a PhD thesis in 1969. He got a ScD degree in 1989, and became a professor in 1990. In 1969, he started his research and teaching activity at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU. In 1971, he joined the Deparment of Physics of Solids, where he served as a teacher, senior teacher, associate professor and professor. From 1971 to 1972, he was on an internship at Ecole Normale Superieure, a higher education establishment in Paris. In 1992, he became chair of the Department of Physics, Azerbaijan Medical University. Mammad Aliyev then was appointed as Azerbaijan`s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey and Spain. During his diplomatic tenure in Spain he was honored with the country`s highest state award by the king.
His research interests lie in microscopic theory of electronic, nuclear and acoustic magnetic resonance in solids in low temperatures. From 1971 to 1992, when he worked at BSU, Mammad Aliyev published nearly 60 papers in local and foreign journals. He has supervised three PhD students to completion.
AYDIN HASAN KAZIMZADE

Aydin Kazimzade was born on 8 August 1950. In 1967, he was admitted to Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. After completing his higher education in 1972, he started postgraduate studies in 01.04.10 – physics of semiconductors and dielectrics at the university. In 1975, he defended a PhD thesis.
Aydin Kazimzade achieved a ScD in 1987, and became a professor in 1988.
He was elected a corresponding member of ANAS in 2014. He launched his research and teaching activity at the Department of Physics of Semiconductors, BSU, in 1973, where he served as a teaching assistant, senior teacher and associate professor. He has chaired the department since 1996. Aydin Kazimzade has been vice-rector of BSU for science and innovations since May, 2011.
In 1976, he received “Republican Lenin Komsomol” award in the field of science and technology, and “Merited Scientist” title in 2009.
His research interests lie in physics and technology of semiconductors and semiconductor devices. He has published 322 papers and articles in local and foreign periodicals. Aydin Kazimzade has supervised over 30 master, two ScD and nine PhD students to completion.
He is deputy chair of the Coordination Council for Continuous Education, Ministry of Education, and a member of scientific councils of Baku State University and its Faculty of Physics. He is also a member of the editorial staff of “Baku University News” journal, and chair of D.02.012 Thesis Council, BSU.
ELDAR ALI MASIMOV

Eldar Masimov was born on 17 December 1941. After graduating from Kharkiv State University in 1963, he embarked on postgraduate studies at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR. In 1969, he defended a PhD thesis in physics and mathematics. In 1984, he obtained a ScD degree in biophysics. He became a professor in 1985. He stayed at the Institute of Physics until 1970, when he joined Baku State University, serving as a teaching assistant, senior teacher, associate professor and professor at the Department of Structure of Substance, Faculty of Physics. He has chaired the department since 1992. Eldar Masimov is also chair of the Department of Biological Systems, Research Institute of Problems of Physics under BSU. He served as head of Science Department at the Ministry of Education, vice-rector for education and acting rector of BSU. For many years he headed a PhD and ScD research council under BSU. He is a member of the editorial staff of “Baku University News” and “Journal of Qafqaz University” periodicals. From 1990-1995, he was a deputy of the 12th convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan. His research interests lie in interaction and structural problems in biological systems. He has published more than 400 papers, 30 monographs, a textbook and an education handbook. He is also the holder of two patents. Eldar Masimov has supervised 20 PhD candidates and two ScD students to completion. He is the recipient of the title “Merited Scientist” and “Merited Educator”.
FAIQ ABDULAVVAL AHMADOV

Faiq Ahmadov was born on 16 October 1940. From 1957 to 1962, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. He did postgraduate studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1966, he defended a PhD thesis, achieving a ScD degree in 1992. In 1994, he was made a professor. Faiq Ahmadov started his career as a teacher in 1966. He was then promoted to a senior teacher and associate professor. From 1994 to 2011, he served as a professor and chair of the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics. He authored more than 100 papers and 12 books. Faiq Ahmadov was the recipient of the title “Merited Teacher”.
AHMAD SHAHVALAD ABDINOV

Ahmad Abdinov was born on 30 May 1945. In 1963, he was admitted to Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. During his student years he was granted Lenin stipend. He graduated with honors in 1968. He spent from 1969 to 1971 at the Institute of Physics and Technology after A.F. Ioffe (Leningrad), USSR Academy of Sciences, as a postgraduate student in physics of semiconductors and dielectrics. In 1972, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1979.
He became a professor in 1981. In 1971, he embarked on a research and teaching activity at the Faculty of Physics, BSU, where he worked as a teaching assistant, senior teacher, associate professor and professor at the Department of Physics of Semiconductors. He also headed the Faculty of Physics (1988-1989), and served as head and scientific director of “Electronics of solids” research library (1989-2005). He has chaired the Department of Physical Electronics, BSU, since 1992.
From 1993 to 2000, he was deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and also served as an acting minister.
In 1976, Ahmad Abdinov won Komsomol Award in the fields of science and technology, and was elected a member of New York Academy of Sciences. He was awarded by Soros Fund in 1993. His research interests lie in properties of electronic processes in disordered semiconductor materials and structures. He has published over 380 papers in leading local and foreign periodicals (including 120 in indexed journals), and over 30 articles.
He is the author of two innovations, five textbooks and 25 subject programs. His works have been cited by foreign scientists more than 250 times. Ahmad Abdinov has addressed over 50 high-profile international research conferences. He has supervised 15 master, 31 PhD and seven ScD students to completion. Also under his supervision, 10 extensive researches have been conducted into defence industry.

SHAHLAR QACHAY ASGAROV

Shahlar Asgarov was born on 15 June 1941. In 1963, he graduated from Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. A year later, in 1964, he started postgraduate studies at the university, where he studied cathode sputtering with low energy ions under professor L.A.Senan (Leningrad). In 1970, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree in 1992. At BSU, his appointments included a teacher, associate professor, deputy dean and vice-rector for international relations. He is currently a professor at the Department of Physical Electronics. In 1974, he was on a one-year internship at the Technical University of Denmark, where he proposed an inhomogeneous model of a contact after studying metal-semiconductor contacts.
He has published over 250 papers, and authored more than 700 articles, 11 books and three monographs. Shahlar Asgarov has supervised nearly 20 PhD and tens of master students to completion.
He served two terms as a member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and chaired the parliamentary Committe for Science and Education from 2000 to 2005. He is the recipient of “Shohrat” Order and “Merited Scientist” title, and the holder of an individual presidential pension. He is also a member of a number of international academies (РАЕ, АСПН).
ADIL UMUD MAHMUDOV

Adil Mahmudov was born on 23 February 1937. From 1954 to 1959, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, which he graduated from with honors. In 1966, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD in chemistry in 1990.
The same year he was made a professor at the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics, BSU, a postion he held until his death. He served as chair of the department from 1985 to 1990.
TAHIR MAMMADRZA MURSALOV

Tahir Mursalov was born in 1948. In 1966, he was admitted to Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating with honors in 1971. The same year he joined the Institute of Theoretical Problems of Chemical Technologies, ANAS, as an engineer. He later worked as a junior research fellow at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes and Institute of Cybernetics. In 1974, he became a teaching assistant at the newly-established Department of Quantum Mechanics of Atoms and Molecules (named Chemical Physics in 1988) at the Faculty of Physics, BSU, where he later served as a senior teacher and associate professor, and was elected a professor in 1994. From 1995 to 2005, Tahir Mursalov chaired this department. In 1993, he was also appointed head of “Quantum Chemistry” Research Laboratory. In 1978, he successfully defended a thesis on theoretical and mathematical physics to get a PhD degree in physics and mathematics. In 1993, he obtained a ScD degree in physics and mathematics after defending a thesis on thermal and molecular physics. He researched into atomic and molecular physics for over 30 years. He published nearly 100 papers in local and foreign periodicals. Tahir Mursalov supervised six PhD students to completion. He was the author and co-author of several textbooks and education handbooks.
ADILA ZIYATKHAN ABBASOVA

Adila Abbasova was born on 3 August 1942. In 1964, she graduated from Baku State University. She achieved a ScD degree in 1987. Adila Abbasova started her career at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences. In 1974, she became a senior research fellow and was then promoted to laboratory head at the Applied Physics Research Institute, Moscow. In 1992, she was made section head at the Supreme Soviet Secretariat of the Republic of Azerbaijan, where she later became department head. She has chaired the Department of Social Legislation, Administration of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. She has been a professor at the Department of Physics of Semiconductors, BSU, since 1995. She has addressed a number of international conferences. UK-based International Biographical Centre named Adila Abbasova a woman of the year in 1999 and 2001, and her name was included in the Centre`s “Outstanding People of the 21st Century” Encyclopedic Book. She has published one monograph and nearly 100 papers, and is the author of five innovations.
VAQIF MUSEYIB SALMANOV

Vaqif Salmanov was born on 24 December 1942. In 1959, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. He won Lenin scholarship at his student years. His research interests lie in nonlinear optics and electronic processes in semiconductor compounds influenced by laser radiation. He spent from 1982 to 1986 in Algeria, where he served as chair of the Department of Physics at the University of Sidi-Bel-Abbes. From 1992 to 1998, he conducted researches into laser spectroscopy at the Center of Applied Physics, the University of Tabriz, Iran.
He is the recipient of “Merited Teacher” title. Vaqif Salmanov is a member of the Scientific Council, BSU Faculty of Physics, and chairs the Expert Council on Physics and Astronomy, Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
NADIR FARRUKH QAHRAMANOV

Nadir Qahramanov was born on 24 May 1945. In 1967, he graduated from Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. From 1968 to 2000, he served as a teaching assistant, teacher, associate professor, professor and department head at the Department of General Physics, BSU. In 1967, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1985. In 1986, he became a professor. On 31 May 2000, Nadir Qahramanov was appointed rector of Sumgayit State University by an executive order of the President of the Republic of Azerbajan, a position he held until December 16, 2013. His research interests lie in the production of new semiconductor compounds on the basis of the elements featured in the first, third and six groups of the Mendeleev Periodic Table.
He has published more than 300 papers and eight monographs in local and foreign periodicals, and authored 15 textbooks and education handbooks, and more than 30 articles. He is the holder of 61 authorship certificates. Nadir Qahramanov has supervised eight PhD students to completion. He has also chaired and co-chaired 14 international and local research conferences. He is the recipient of “Shohrat” Order, a jubilee medal and badge of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation.
SARHADDIN QUBADDIN ABDULLAYEV

Sarhaddin Abdullayev was born on 14 April 1939. In 1958, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating with honors in 1963. He spent a year as a teacher of physics in a secondary school in the village of Qimil, Quba district. In 1964, he began postgraduate studies in theoretical and mathematical physics at the Department of Theoretical Physics, BSU. In 1970, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1996. He started a research and teaching activity at Baku State University in 1967. He served as a teaching assistant at the Department of Structure of Substance, and then was a senior teacher and associate professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics. Sarhaddin Abdullayev is now a professor at this department.
His research interests lie in high energy physics. He proposed a unique method allowing to fully calculate electroweak asymmetry in lepton-lepton, lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collisions.
He has published more than 165 papers in local and foreign journals, nearly 75 textbooks, education and methodological handbooks, including two monographs. He made an outstanding contribution to the first books and manuals of physical problems for secondary schools. He has supervised eight PhD and more than 25 master students to completion. He sits on the jury panel of physics Olympiads among students and schoolchildren held by the Ministry of Education, and is a member of D.02.012 Thesis Council under BSU.

Mazahir Panahov was born on 13 March 1951. In 1967, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating with honors in 1972. From 1973 to 1976, he did postgraduate studies at the Institute of Physics and Technology named after A.F. Ioffe in the city of Saint Petersburg. In 1977, he was made a senior teacher at the Department of Semiconductors, Baku State University, and was appointed an associate professor in 1988.
In 1979, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD in 1992.
In 1993, he became a professor. In 1982-1983, he conducted researches in the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, the United Kingdom. He has been an associate professor at the Department of General Physics since 1991, which he has chaired since 1996.
His research interests lie in electronic and optic events in solids with complex structure. He has supervised one PhD and one ScD student to completion.
He has published more than 100 papers in local and foreign periodicals, and authored three education handbooks.

Jafar Quluzade was born on 27 August 1936. In 1961, he graduated from Leningrad University (present-day Saint Petersburg University), embarking on postgraduate studies at the Department of Astrophysics. In 1966, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree in 2003. He became a professor in 1991. From 1966 to 1969, he served at Shamaki Astrophysical Observatory, ANAS. In 1969, he started his research and teaching activity at the Department of Molecular Physics and Optics, BSU. In 1975, he was made an associate professor at the Department of Astrophysics, being promoted to a professor in 1991. He has chaired the department since 1997. His research interests lie in solar physics. He has published over 200 papers in local and foreign periodicals. He has supervised over 25 master, one ScD and three PhD students to completion. He has authored seven textbooks and education handbooks, and one monograph. In 1991, Jafar Quluzade received a diploma from the USSR Federation of Cosmonautics for his contribution to the studying of the cosmos and training of young specialists. He has been a member of the European Astronomical Society since 2001. He is the recipient of the title “Merited Teacher”. Nizami Hasanli has served as a professor at Ankara Technical Univerisity since 1992. He is a freelance research fellow at the International Research Center, BSU.
ALI OSMAN ALIYEV

Ali Aliyev was born in 1941. He entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, in 1957. Tariyel Ismayilov was born on 16 October 1949. In 1967, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. He completed his higher education in 1972. In 1981, Tariyel Ismayilov defended a PhD thesis and in 1993 obtained a ScD degree in 01.04.10-Physics of Semiconductors and Dielectrics. In 2006, he became a professor. He spent from 1972 to 2000 at Laboratory of Theory of Semiconductors, Institute of Physics, ANAS, where he served as a senior laboratory assistant, research fellow, leading research fellow and laboratory head. He also worked as a scientific secretary of the institute. From 1985 to 1992, he headed a theoretical group, Space Research and Production Union. In 2000, he began a research and teaching activity at BSU as a professor at the Department of Solid State Physics.
His research interests lie in optical properties of low-dimensional electronic systems, spintronics, photonics, and laser physics.
He has published over 100 papers in local and foreign periodicals, with 18 of them featured in the journals indexed by Thompson Reuters.

Irada Aliyeva was born on 23 October 1959. In 1976, she entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating with honors in 1981. In 1983, she started postgraduate studies. In 1986, she defended a PhD thesis in physics and mathematics, and obtained a ScD in biophysics in 2000. In 2007, she became a professor of biophysics.
From 1986 to 2011 Irada Aliyeva spent at BSU where she served as a junior research fellow, research fellow, senior researh fellow and leading research fellow at Research Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, senior research fellow at Research Laboratory of Problems of Physics, and head of the Research Section.
She has worked as vice-rector for education and training technologies since 2011.
Her research interests lie in structure of proteins, peptides and hormones. Irada Aliyeva has published 300 papers and one monograph in local and foreign periodicals, and authored a textbook and an education handbook.
She is also the author of one innovation. Irada Aliyeva has supervised five PhD students to completion. She is the recipient of “Taraqqi” Medal.

Mahammadali Ramazanov was born on 31 October 1958. He studied at Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating in 1980. In 1989, he defended a PhD thesis on the subject of semiconductors and dielectrics, and achieved a ScD degree in solid state physics and chemical physics. In 2012, he was made a professor of chemical physics. From 1982 to 1986, he served as a chief engineer at “Register”, Special Construction Bureau, Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences. Mahammadali Ramazanov worked as head of the laboratory of composite structure from 1986 to 1992, leading research fellow at the Institute of Physics from 1992 to 2004, and first deputy director of the Institute of Space Research of Natural Resources, AMAKA, from 2004 to 2005, deputy director of BSU Problems of Physics Research Institute from 2005 to 2006. He has chaired the Department of Chemical Physics of Nanomaterials since 2006, and is also dean of the Faculty of Physics. He has published 315 papers in foreign periodicals (of them 73 featured in the lists of Thomson Reuters), one monograph in the USA, one textbook, two education handbooks and two books. He has supervised seven master and seven ScD students to completion. Mahammadali Ramazanov chairs the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Physics, sits on the scientific and technical councils of the Institute of Problems of Physics and the Ministry of Defence Industry. From 1970 to 1972, she was a postgraduate student at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Moscow region, where she also had an internship from 1972 to 1974. In 1974, she defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD in 1995. The same year she was made a professor. She has served at the Department of Structure of Substance, BSU, since 1974. Her research interests lie in nuclear physics. Sajida Abdulvahabova has published 150 papers and articles, and one textbook. She has supervised two PhD students to completion. She is a member of Nuclear Research Scientific Council, ANAS, D.02.012 Dissertation Council under BSU, and also chairs the Scentific Seminar under the council. Sajida Abdulvahabova is the recipient of “Taraqqi” Medal.
AHLIMAN KHANALI MURADOV

Ahliman Muradov was born on 9 July 1947. From 1965 to 1970, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, and then embarked on postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Physical Electronics. In 1975, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1993. In 1994, he became a professor. In 1974, he started his research and teaching activity at BSU, where he served as a teaching assistant, senior teacher and associate professor at the Department of Physical Electronics.
He published nearly 100 papers in local and foreign journals. He supervised more than 10 masters and one PhD student to completion. He was a member of the thesis councils of the Faculty of Physics, BSU, and the Institute of Physics, ANAS. Ahliman Muradov also was a member of the Expert Council on Physics, Higher Attestation Commission.
RASIM QARA MAMMADOV

Rasim Mammadov was born on 1 June 1950. In 1967, he entered Azerbaijan Technical University, Faculty of Automation and Calculation Technics, graduating with honors in 1972. In 1975, he started his postgraduate studies in radiophysics at the Faculty of Physics, Baku State University. In 1984, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree 2004. In 2009, he became a professor. Rasim Mammadov started his research and pedagogical activity at BSU Faculty of Physics in 1974. In 1979, he became a laboratory assistant at the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics, where he was later promoted to a teacher, senior teacher, and associate professor. From 1999 to 2004, he served as deputy dean of the Faculty of Physics, and then as dean from 2005 to 2012. In 2005-2010, he was deputy chairman of D.02.012 Thesis Council at BSU, which he chaired from 2010 to 2012. He serves as a professor at the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics. His research interests lie in physics of semiconductor devices. He was the first to observe the emergence of an additional energy field in real metal-semiconductor contacts. He has published over 200 papers and articles in local and foreign periodicals. Rasim Mammadov has supervised more than 10 master and two PhD students to completion. He is the recipient of “Taraqqi” Medal. He sits on the Scientific Council, BSU Faculty of Physics, and is a member of the editorial staff of “Baku University News” journal and Republican Union of Journalists.
RENA JUMSHUD QASIMOVA

Rena Qasimova was born on 11 December 1952. In 1976, she graduated with honors from Moscow State Engineering Physics Institute, where she stayed for postgraduate studies. After completing her postgraduate education, she defended a PhD thesis in physics and mathematics. In 2000, she obtained a ScD degree in 01.04.10–Physics of semiconductors and dielectrics. From 1979 to 1985, she served as a junior research fellow at the problem laboratory, Faculty of Physics, BSU. From 1985 to 2004, she served as a teacher, senior teacher and associate professor at the Department of Physics. In 2004, she was elected a professor at this department.
She is an acting head of the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics, deputy dean for science and master`s education at the Faculty of Physics, and head of BSU SABAH groups. Rena Qasimova also serves as secretary of the Scientific Council, Faculty of Physics, Publishing Council of BSU and Expert Council on Physics, Higher Attestation Council. Her research interests lie in nonlinear interaction optical waves and their theory. She has published 127 papers, including one monograph and 42 articles published in periodicals indexed by Thomson Reuters.
She is the author of two innovations and a scientific device project.
Rena Qasimova has supervised more than 15 master and three PhD students to completion. She is the recipient of “Taraqqi” Medal.
ISFANDIYAR MAQSUD ALIYEV

Isfandiyar Aliyev was born on 31 August 1954. In 1971, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. He completed his higher education in 1976, and joined the Institute of Space Research, Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, as a senior laboratory assistant. In 1982, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1999. In 2006, he became a professor. From 1989 to 1990 he worked at the Institute of Radiation Problems, ANAS, and spent from 1990 to 2003 at the Institute of Physics, ANAS, where he served as a senior and leading research fellow. From 1997 to 1999, Isfandiyar Aliyev worked as an acting associate professor at the Department of Physics, Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. In 2000, he embarked on a teaching activity at the Department of General Physics, BSU, where he was made a professor in 2003. Isfandiyar Aliyev`s research interests lie in physics and technology of semiconductors and physics of solid solutions. He has published 155 papers in local and foreign periodicals. He is the author of three patents. Isfandiyar Aliyev has supervised five master students to completion. He was a member of the Scientific Council, Faculty of Physics, BSU, and the Republican Council for Research Organization and Coordination. From 2011 to 2012, he was a member of the Expert Council on Physics and Astronomy, Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
SOFYA RUSTAM FIQAROVA

Sofya Fiqarova was born on 6 July 1949. In 1966, she was admitted to Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating in 1971. She started her postgraduate studies in 01.04.10-Physics of semiconductors and dielectrics at the Department of Physics of Solids, BSU. In 1981, she defended a PhD thesis. In 2008, Sofya Fiqarova achieved a ScD degree in 01.04.07 – Solid State Physics, and was made a professor in 2012. In 1972, she started her research and teaching activity at the Department of Physics of Solids, BSU, where she served as a teacher, senior teacher and associate professor. She is now a professor at the department.
Her major research interests lie in transition in low-dimension electronic systems, and spintronics. She has published more than 115 papers in local and foreign journals, of them 25 featured in the periodicals indexed by Thomson Reuters. In 2010, her monograph entitled “Thermodynamics, Gibbs Method and Statistical Physics of Electron Gases”, co-authored with academician B.M.Asgarov, was published by Springer Journal.
She has supervised by more than 30 masters and three PhD students to completion. She sits on D.02.012 Thesis Council, BSU.
TALATDIN ORUJQULU BAGHIROV

Talatdin Baghirov was born on 20 May 1960. In 1977, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics, graduating with honors in 1982. From 1982 to 1985, he worked at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences. From 1985 to 1988, he did postgraduate studies in thermal and molecular physics at the Department of Optical and Molecular Physics at BSU. He did his research at Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds of Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1988, Talatdin Baghirov defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 2011. In 2012, he was made a professor at the Department of Structure of Substance, BSU. From 1982-1985 he spent working at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences. In 1988-1989, he served as a senior laboratory assistant at BSU molecular biophysics research laboratory. From 1989 to 1992, he was a senior research fellow at BSU research laboratory of chemical physics of macromolecular solutions. In 1992, he joined the Department of Structure of Substance, where he served as a teacher, associate professor and professor. Talatdin Baghirov also worked as a part-time senior research fellow at the Department of Physics of Biological Systems, Research Institute of Physics, BSU.
His research interests lie in interaction and structure of biological systems.
He has published 110 papers in local and foreign periodicals. Talatdin Baghirov has supervised more than 15 master and three PhD students to completion. He is a member of the Scientific Council, Faculty of Physics, BSU, and D.02.012 Thesis Council.
MAARIF ALI JAFAROV

Maarif Jafarov was born on 4 August 1960. In 1977, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Physics. He graduated from the university with honors in physics of semiconductors in 1982. He started his career in 1982, when he was made an engineer at the Baku office of the Institute of Applied Physics, Ministry of Defence Industry, USSR. In 1984, he embarked on postgraduate studies at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences. In 1989, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 2007. He was made a professor in 2010. Maarif Jafarov worked as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Photoelectronics, ANAS, until 1993. In 1994, he became a leading research fellow at the research laboratory of electronics of solids under the Faculty of Physics, Baku State University. In December of the same year, he was appointed head of the laboratory. He has been a professor at the Department of Physics of Semiconductors. Maarif Jafarov has published more than 200 papers, and is the author of four authorship certificates, two patents and one monograph. He has supervised three PhD students to completion. He sits on the Expert Council of Physics, Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
ALI HASAN HUSEYNOV

Ali Huseynov was born on 6 January 1952. In 1977, he graduated from BSU, Faculty of Physics. He did his thesis at the Department of Physics of Semiconductors. During his student years, he worked at ANAS Institute of Physics (1971-1974) and Baku State University. In 1975, he joined the Department of Physics of Semiconductors, BSU, where he has worked as a senior laboratory assistant, laboratory head, teaching assistant, senior teacher and associate professor. In 1982, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in physics in 2014. His research interests lie in physics of semiconductors and semiconductor devices. He has published 83 papers and theses in local and foreign periodicals. He has also authored four textbooks. Ali Huseynov has supervised more than 10 master and six PhD students to completion.
