History
In 1924 Department of General Physics was established. The first chief of department was S.Usatiy. The first azerbaijanian specialists, who worked in department, were R.Melikov and B.Rustamov.
E.Lopukhin, F.Qalperin, M.Pogrebnoy, KL.Leybenzon, I.Kurchatov, S.Rjanov and Yu.Dorfman worked in department long period. In 1936-1937 years department of Experimental Physics and department of Geophysics-Astronomy were established on the basis of General Physics department. The chief of Experimental Physics department was Yu.Dorfman. In 1940 department of General Physics, Molecular Physics and Theoretical Physics were established on the basis of Experimental Physics department. In 1956-1957 years department of Semiconductor Physics was established on the basis of Semiconductor physics laboratory at General Physics department.
Since 1960 chief of General Physics department was K.Kocharli, in 1965-1970 years – associate professor Q.Efendiyev. In 1971 the Experimental Physics department was divided on General Physics and Physical Electronics departments. Before 1976 chief of General Physics department was K.Kocharli, in 1976-1992 years – professor A.Zeynalli, 1993-1995 years- associate professor F.Yusifov, from 1995 till present – professor M.Panahov.
